Asterisk Bootcamp is an intensive
5-day training course providing in-depth coverage
of the key points of Asterisk installation,
configuration and administration. The course
(being Delivered in Partnership with VoipMagic
South Africa)) begins with a comprehensive
review of Asterisk as an application, a project
and a community. Students will learn to download,
compile, install, and tune Asterisk, to connect
it with both end-user devices (phones) and
the outside world. Students will learn to create
dialplans, to implement applications, and to
make use of the long list of features included
with Asterisk. At the end of the course, students
will be able to create a working Asterisk system
from a standard Linux computer, configure the
system to support end users connected via multiple
technologies, and to handle all necessary adds,
moves and changes. If you want to learn how

# Gated Community Mobile Access
Scenario: A Town House complex would like to
open the entrance gate using the owners/tenants
cellphones. Solution : Asterisk is set to look
at the caller ID and only open the gate when
it comes from a known user. The call does not
cost the caller anything , because Asterisk
does not answer the call. The additional advantages
is that a caller log is available to see who
opened the gate and at what time. It could
further be used to track to see who is inside
or not. The hardware to "trigger" the
gate can be provided by Voipmagic. It also
becomes easy to add a new member - let's say
someone comes to visit. A new member can be
added for a limited period. The end of the
gate remote control is finally in sight!
# Wireless Network Status Notification
Scenario: The Administrator of a Wireless network
would like to notified when a wireless link
goes "down". Solution : The Server
is set up to "ping" each link at
a set interval. When a link does not respond
, Asterisk phones the Administrator on his
mobile phone. When the Administrator answers
, Asterisk announces that the specific link
is down and provide the Administrator with
he option to reset the equipment. Asterisk
then resets ( power down and power up ) the
equipment. IT Administrators can finally take
the weekends off !
# Security Lights via Voice Control
Scenario: You are driving home late at night
and would like to have the security lights
on when you arrive home. Solution : Asterisk
answer your call and ask you what you would
like to do. You enter a number and Asterisk
switches on your security lights. All the nessacary
hardware to make this possible can be supplied
by Voipmagic. PIN codes can be added for security.
You never have to arrive at a dark home again!
( Why not have the jacuzzi started while your
at it ! ) You can also have Asterisk respond
on you CallerID - this way it won't cost you
anything. The phone will simply ring and then
get hangup while the light sitches on.
